# The Hello-Check Prompt (Chapter 2)

The hello check is a handshake. The invented memo below checks whether you can get a usable result, save it, and revise it.

**Use when:** you have written the five-part briefing using an invented role and team vocabulary. Use the filename or project-instructions setting named on your [setup card](https://abeburnett.com/vibe-coding/setup/#office-start). Keep real work data out of these prompts until you have read Chapter 3.

## 1. Check the briefing

Start a fresh conversation in your project. If your tool has no saved-instructions feature, paste the briefing first. Ask:

```
What do you understand about my job from the project instructions?
```

Check that it names your role, one recurring artifact, and your never-paste rule. If it misses the briefing, check the selected project and the instructions' location. If it read the briefing but misunderstood it, sharpen the wording.

## 2. Draft an invented memo

```
Draft a three-paragraph status memo for an invented project called Northwind:
week twelve, shipments on time, one delayed vendor, next milestone Friday.
Save it as sample-memo.md in my work folder.
```

Open the saved file yourself. Check that the vendor delay is there. In a browser tool, download the memo if offered, or copy it into a document and save it yourself.

## 3. Make and check a revision

```
Make the second paragraph two bullets. Save the revised memo.
```

Open the revised file and check the two bullets. Browser readers can download or copy the revision and save that version themselves.

**Done means:** your conversation uses the briefing, you open the saved memo, and you see the requested revision. Then return to Book 2, Chapter 3 before using real work data.
